One of our greatest assets as creatives is our imagination. But people who have active imaginations are often seen as having their head in the clouds or coming up with ideas that are just too out there.
But to be honest, you have to be a little “out there” if you want to create new and innovative ideas. It just comes with the territory.
Logic can only get you so far. And if you’re too afraid to go beyond logic then you will never create something truly innovative.
So I took the time to compile 5 ways to help you break out of logic and dive into the realm of your own inner imagination.
Surround Yourself with Inspiring Content – We are constantly taking in information, both good and bad. Our subconscious records every moment, every word, and every image we surround ourselves with. This information is stored and influences not only the way you behave, but how you think. If you’re not careful, these ideas has the potential to manifest themselves in your lives. I suggest you take inventory of your life and let go of what’s not serving you and replace it with people, places, and things that truly move you. Read a great book, listen to more music, visit a museum, or do something thoughtful for someone. The more you intake positive information, the better your ideas will be.
Day Dream – We are taught that sitting around and doing nothing is not only unproductive, but a complete waste of our time. But to be honest, daydreaming is one of the most productive things you can do. Since we’re constantly taking in information from our environment, our mind is filled with so much crap we don’t realize it. It’s when we take a moment from our day to stop and think can we begin to process that information. Log out of facebook, silence your phone, go find a comfortable and quiet place and just allow yourself to think.
Create Freely – Don’t wait for that ideal client to give that dream project, become your best client! Work on something that truly inspires you. Don’t worry if it’s going to bring in money or it’s going to get you attention online. Do it for YOU! When you create for the sake of creating, you find unexpected solutions to problems you may have had in the past. Creativity is not a destination, it’s a process of discovery. And the more you create the more discoveries will you find. Just keep creating!
Be a Lifelong Learner – Learning is not only essential for fostering imagination, its essential to our existence! And considering how fast technologies and new discoveries are happening, it’s crucial that we stay relevant. Keep up with trends, adapt new skill sets, and do whatever you can to stay ahead of the curve. And you what they say, the more you learn the more you earn,
Travel – Travelling has tons of well-known benefits, like making new friends, gaining new experiences and creating new memories.
